Music Tuition

As a school we believe that access to top quality extra-curricular music provision is important for students and our links with Severn Arts enable us to provide high quality music tuition. Students who choose to learn an instrument or take singing lessons receive 35 lessons over the course of the year and are taught individually or in small groups for between 20-30 minutes each week. We are fortunate enough to have a team of highly trained visiting peripatetic staff who come into school once a week to provide these lessons.

Should your son/daughter be interested in learning an instrument then the fees are outlined below. Please note that all fees will be payable in advance:

  • £19.35 per 30 minute individual lesson
  • £12.90 per 20 minute individual lesson
  • £6.45 per paired 20 minute lesson
  • the fees for shared 30 minute lesson is dependent on how many are in the group (max. 4)

It is also worth noting that instrument hire fees are £33 per term, which are payable in advance. This is arranged directly through Severn Arts via their website https://www.severnarts.org.uk/. Pupils who are eligible for Free School Meals are able to apply for full remission of instrument hire (maximum one instrument per pupil) and ensemble membership. Remission for these must be applied for by the parent through the Severn Arts website.

Although some lessons do take place before and after school and at lunchtime, the majority of teaching occurs during the school day. It is therefore inevitable that part of a school lesson will be missed, but a rotating timetable tries to ensure that it is not always the same lesson. It is vitally important that students catch up on any work missed. If there are any difficulties with lesson times, please discuss it with the peripatetic teacher or your son’s/daughter’s music teacher.

Regular practice is a necessity and we would ask you to monitor this in the student practice diary supplied by Severn Arts. Students are assessed regularly, and you will receive a written report towards the end of the academic year.

There are several administration points that are important to consider before booking lessons:

  • If a teacher is absent and the lesson cannot be made up, the lesson will not be charged for and we will carry your payment over to the next term or reimburse as necessary.
  • Students are expected to notify their teacher in advance if they know they will miss a lesson e.g. due to a school trip. Unfortunately, if a student is absent or if the school is closed due to heavy snowfall or an emergency there will no reimbursement and the lesson will not be made up.
  • Should your son/daughter decide to give up the lessons during the year we will require a minimum of a full term’s notice in writing signed by a parent/carer.
  • Fees are payable in advance by Parent pay.
  • You may be required to purchase music and woodwind reeds or strings from time to time.

If you would like your son/daughter to begin learning an instrument or if you would like them to continue learning an instrument, then please ensure you have read the information above and complete the form below.
