Accessing the Work
Working at home
From Monday 14th September, if your son/daughter is working at home they will be able to access their work via Microsoft Teams. Please note we will no longer be using the ‘working at home’ folder on the student share. Your son/daughter will be able to access their tasks via the activity or assignment function. Your son/daughter should follow their school timetable in their planner and where possible complete all work set that day. Any extra resources such as worksheets or PowerPoints will be saved and accessed alongside the task guidance.
Further information about working at home can be found in the Parent Handbook and guidance on how to access Microsoft Teams can be found on the ‘remote learning technology’ page of our website.
If students have forgotten their password then they should email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
Student user area access
To access a student’s user area, students should click on the link at the top of the school website called ‘FOLDR’ under the school logins pull down menu. Students will need to use their own personal username and password. If students have forgotten their password then they should email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Knowledge organisers
Your son/daughter should have their knowledge organiser folder, however all knowledge organisers are available on our website and do not need to be printed and can be viewed on a screen. They can be accessed by clicking on this link.
Student home learning guidance
Working from home is not ideal and can sometimes feel very frustrating. There are a number of things that you need to do that will help make home learning easier.
Before you start work
Before you start your home learning, make sure you have done the following:
- Eaten your breakfast. Your brain is like an engine. If you don’t feed it, it won’t work properly.
- Found where you are going to work. It is important that you work in a space that does not contain any distractions. The better your focus, the easier work will be.
- Checked your schedule and collected all your equipment and resources that you need.
- Poured yourself a glass of water. Water increases your concentration levels and helps you think more clearly.
- Put your phone in another room. Students who work in rooms with their phones achieve less than those who don’t.
Check out your tasks
All your tasks for that day will be on the Microsoft Teams. You will be able to see your tasks for that day by logging into Microsoft Teams using your school email and clicking on the activity or assignment tab on the left hand side. The link to Microsoft Teams can be found under the ‘school logins’ at the top of the website. Remember you should complete all work according to your timetable and on the day it is set. You should not be leaving work to build up. All resources will be uploaded to Microsoft Teams so that you have everything you need in the one place.
Starting work
Once you have clicked on your subject, you should:
- Read through your home learning task sheet (see an example below)
- Write the date on the left hand side of your page and underline.
- Write the title in the centre of your page and underline.
- Write out the task number in the margin and tick them off as you complete them.
Remember to double check if any of the tasks need to be sent to your teacher for checking.

Where can I get support?
Finding help when you are stuck
It is very normal to find the work you are doing at home difficult. Even if you are not in school, we can still help you. If you are stuck, you can get answers using all or any of the following:
- Use the chat function in MS Teams to log your question. Others in your group may be able to help you as well as the teacher. A guide to MS Teams can be found on the website page on the ‘students’ page of the website under the ‘remote learning technology’ tab.
- Email your teacher using the department@ email address. A list of the email addresses can be found below:

It is unreasonable to expect students to work for 5 hours every day and so we would recommend students spending 30 minutes on each task and taking regular breaks. Regular breaks and making the most of exercise time is important to enabling your son/daughter to concentrate fully on their tasks. There are lots of free exercise apps and YouTube videos that your son/daughter can follow and complete on a daily basis.
Communication with Staff
Communication with Staff
Regular contact with teachers is important for students. Your son/daughter’s head of year will be sending a weekly email to students to keep them updated with weekly challenges and activities that they can complete as well as making sure that they are well. Your son/daughter can always contact their head of year and teachers via their school email. If you have queries about the work you can contact the subject teachers via the subject emails in the table below:
Our teaching staff are also ‘working from home’ and are also trying to balance work with looking after their children and other family members. Unfortunately, this means the teaching staff do not have the capacity to mark or provide feedback on the tasks that the students complete.

Further Advice
Further Advice
My son/daughter is struggling to complete the work
We fully understand that students are going to find the tasks more challenging than they would if they were at school. We also appreciate that some students may be unwilling and finding these uncertain times very unsettling. Ensuring that your son/daughter’s is coping and that they are healthy both in body and mind is paramount. If completing the weekly tasks is causing issues, then please focus on ensuring that your son/daughter reads every day and that they complete their daily Hegarty maths tasks.
